In response to media inquiries about the resignation of the minister, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (29th) that minister Chiu indeed expressed his apologies to the President and his team last night as he rendered his resignation due to the trouble caused to the team following matters involving his family.
The MND explained that the President requested the minister to stay in his post to ensure that all important national defense affairs are handled accordingly while government teams hand over. Minister Chiu will continue to fulfill his duties of army built-up and preparation for war during this time. In addition, matters involving his family are now being investigated by relevant agencies according to the law, and full cooperation is being given to these agencies for appropriate handling.
